Kaduna Electric increased the number of BAND A feeders receiving 20 hours of power supply daily, from 37 to 55, following the upgrade of 18 additional feeders, including one 11KV feeder and seventeen 33KV feeders.

The company announced this development in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports on Wednesday, despite recent concerns about energy theft by some customers under the Band A feeders.

The DisCo revealed that since the commencement of the Service Based Tariff on April 1, 2024, all Band A feeders in Kaduna Electric’s service areas, which include Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi, have been receiving a minimum of 20 hours of power supply daily.

Sadiq Mohammed, Kaduna Electric’s Chief Operating Officer, described the approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as a positive step which according to him, validates the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance power supply for more customers.

He further noted that with more feeders upgraded to Band A, a greater number of customers are now assured of receiving at least 20 hours of supply daily, barring any unforeseen technical issues.

Advisors Reports confirmed that the newly approved Band A feeders include the 11KV Fifth Chukker, 33KV Rigasa, 33KV Area Bottlers, 33KV Going Gora, 33KV Unguwan Boro, 33KV Turunku, 33KV Kafanchan, 33KV Hanwa, and 33KV Kofan Doka in Kaduna State. In Sokoto State, the 33KV New Injection and 33KV Farfatu were also approved.

Additional feeders in Zamfara State include 33KV Magami, 33KV Tsafe, 33KV Mafara, 33KV Bakura, 33KV Maradun, and 33KV Anka.

According to a recent publication by the company, seen by Advisors Reports, the compliance summary for Band A feeders between May 30, 2024, and June 5, 2024, showed an average compliance rate of 4 out of 7 for the original 37 Band A feeders, and 3 out of 5 for the 18 newly added feeders.

However, Kaduna Electric has identified certain areas notorious for energy theft and low payment despite enjoying a minimum of 20 hours of power supply daily.

These areas include Legislative, Barnawa GRA, and Leventis in Kaduna, and Canteen in Zaria.

It has therefore vowed to name and shame the perpetrators in the media.
