… exceeds OPEC quota by 4% as crude output hits 1.56mbpd in June

Oredola Adeola

Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production rose to an average of 1.735 million barrels per day in June 2026, including 1.56 million bpd of crude and 0.18 million bpd of condensates, marking a fourth consecutive month of output growth.

This was contained in Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), recent data released at the weekend and obtained by Advisors Reports.

Advisors Reports analysis of the data showed that the country’s crude output of 1.56 million barrels per day in June also exceeded its Organisation and Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC’s quota of 1.5 million bpd by about 4 per cent.

The NUPRC in the docuement revealed that in strict crude oil terms (excluding condensates), the 1.56 million daily average production Nigeria witnessed in June is the highest that Africa’s biggest oil producer has recorded since April 2020, thus representing a 74-month high.

The Commission stated that in June, the peak combined crude oil and condensate production was 1.89mbpd, reflecting Nigeria’s potential to reach 2mbpd in the near term, adding that, the lowest production was 1.57mbpd for the period in review.

The statistics by NUPRC therefore showed that Nigeria has maintained an upward trajectory, increasing from 1.483 mbpd in February to 1.546 mbpd in March, 1.663 mbpd in April, 1.700 mbpd in May, and 1.735 mbpd in June representing a 2.2% growth month on month.

The Commission therefore emphasised that the improved performance was primarily driven by stable production operations across most producing assets and the absence of any major pipeline outages during the period under review.

Advisors Reports gathered that the enhanced operational stability supported improved production uptime and crude evacuation efficiency.

Engr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Commission’s Chief Executive (CCE) in a recent meeting with the Dr Zacch Adedeji, NRS Chairman, revealed that Nigeria had the potential to produce 1.9 million barrels per day, having hit a peak production of 1.86 million barrels per day in May.
