… confirms snapped 330kV line in Igumale swamp as cause of disruption

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, it successfully identified a fault on the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Double Circuit transmission line in the Igumale area of Benue State.
This discovery has therefore paved the way for repairs scheduled for Thursday, promising the restoration of electricity after nearly a week of outages that have affected the Northeast, Northwest, and parts of North Central Nigeria.
She further explained that TCN is already mobilizing the necessary equipment and materials for repairs.
According to her, due to the challenging swampy terrain, TCN will transport a bulldozer and additional materials from its Enugu Regional office to the site of the incident.
“A Hiab vehicle will also be dispatched to Igumale to help properly tension the transmission line during the repair process.
Advisors Reports gathered that the 215KM Ugwuaji – Apir Double Circuit transmission line tripped due to a fault on October 21, 2024, causing widespread power outages across the Northeast, Northwest, and parts of the North Central regions.
Customers of Kano, Kaduna, and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies have faced significant disruptions since then, following the vandalism of key transmission towers T133 and T136 along the Shiroro-Kaduna 330kV lines, which supply power to the Kaduna and Kano regions.
As an interim solution, the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV transmission line was expected to mitigate the impact on affected areas.
Meanwhile, the commencement of faulty clearing on the 330kV line, brings hope to residents of Kano, Kaduna, Jos and other parts of the country.
TCN has given assurance that bulk power supply to Kano, Jos, and Kaduna, for distribution to homes and businesses, is expected to resume shortly after the repairs are completed.
Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Head of Corporate Communication at Kaduna Electric, has also issued an apology for the inconvenience, assuring that power supply would be restored as soon as possible.
