The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved 21 Band A feeders with a minimum of 20 hours of power supply per day in three out of ten districts, while the remaining 160 feeders in the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) franchise areas will have a minimum of 16 hours of power supply per day for various customer service categories.
This was obtained by Advisors Reports exclusively obtained via NERC data sheet and partly confirmed in a publication released by EKEDC on Sunday.
The increase in electricity tariff for Band A customers, who are those who enjoy 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily, has been implemented to reduce the $2.3 billion spent on subsidies.
The new tariff plan affects 15% of the 12 million electricity customers in the country, with customers paying ₦225 kilowatts per hour, up from the current ₦66.
