The Lagos State Government has approved a five-member board for the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), chaired by Abimbola Odubiyi, to oversee and regulate electricity market operations within the state.

The appointments, which are pending confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, have taken immediate effect.

A statement seen by Advisors Reports on Monday confirmed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the constitution of the board.

It stated that the constitution of LASERC is a crucial step in ensuring that Lagos continues to lead the way in energy innovation, sustainability, and reliability.”

The board comprises Dr. Fouad Animashaun as Executive Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Kofo Olokun-Olawoyin as Executive Commissioner for Legal Advisory, Registration, and Licensing, Oluwaseun Fadare as Executive Commissioner for Engineering and Standards, and Bunmi Benson as Market Operator.

In his reaction to the appointment, Abimbola Odubiyi, who previously served as a pioneer commissioner with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), expressed his readiness to contribute to the state’s energy agenda.

Odubiyi has been involved in projects spanning gas and coal power stations and electricity tariff design.

“I am honoured to be part of this transformative initiative for Lagos, and I look forward to collaborating with the team to further develop the state’s energy landscape,” Odubiyi said.
