… to launch new initiatives on net-billing, anti-vandalism, and embedded power projects

Oredola Adeola

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and GIZ’s Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) have agreed to deepen collaboration and explore new partnerships to advance Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The agreement came during a courtesy visit by a GIZ delegation led by Mr. Milos Karic, Head of Sustainable Energy Planning and Access under NESP, to Dr. Musiliu Oseni, Chairman of NERC on Monday.

Dr. Oseni, in his remark commended GIZ for its sustained support, highlighting that their joint efforts produced one of Africa’s leading mini-grid regulations, now a benchmark for off-grid electrification and electricity access.

The NERC Chairman emphasized the need for continued collaboration to strengthen regulatory frameworks and support the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The GIZ team reaffirmed their commitment to working with NERC on new initiatives, including Net-Billing Regulations, stakeholder workshops on reducing power infrastructure vandalism, and embedded generation projects with select Distribution Companies (DisCos) to enhance supply reliability within franchise areas.
