The ENERGY TIMES Awards, set for April 11, 2025, will honour Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, Mele Kyari, NNPCL GCEO, Biodun Oyebanji , Ekiti State Governor, and Mohammed Yahaya, Gombe State Governor, for their contributions to the energy sector.
Mr. Kayode Ekundayo, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of ENERGY TIMES confirmed these details in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports over the weekend.
According to him, the 2025 ENERGY TIMES Awards will take place at Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, where distinguished personalities will be recognized for their contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector.
He said, “Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, who will lead the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to the event, is also set to be the Special Guest of Honour and an award recipient.
“Meanwhile, Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, will lead key players from the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector to the ceremony.
“Kyari, credited with transforming NNPCL from a loss-making entity into a profitable corporation and reviving Nigeria’s refineries, will be honoured as Man of the Year.
“Additionally, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, will receive the prestigious Life Achiever of the Year award.
“Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state will be honored as Energy Governor of the year for his immeasurable developmental energy projects he initiated in Ekiti state.
“Engr. Ahmed Farouk, NMDPR’s Chief Executive, clinched the Transformational Leadership Award, while Dr Kola Adesina, Group Managing Director, Sahara group, will receive Energy Icon of the year.
“Mrs. Mojisola Abdul, Chairman Mojec International, will be honored as Entrepreneur of the Year.
“Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, is also expected as a special guest of honour,” Ekundayo said.
The Editor-in-Chief of ENERGY TIMES further explained that four oil industry players who have distinguished themselves in their areas of profession will be honoured with Excellence awards.
He said, “They are Engr. Wole Ogunleye, PETAN Chairman, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Limited’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Executive Chairman of Raffles Energies Ltd, Prof. Billy Okoye, and Mr. Andy Odeh, immediate past General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Company (NLNG).
“MOMAS Electricity Meter Manufacturing Company (MEMMCOL) will receive the Most Innovative Company of the Year award, while Heirs Energies will be conferred with the Outstanding Oil & Gas Company of the Year”, he said.
Ekundayo noted that five long-standing subscribers to the newspaper will be appreciated at the event with certificates of recognition.
“The awardees, which were carefully selected based on their contributions in the energy sector, include top industry players, organisations, and government agencies whose contributions have impacted the economy and people’s lives positively,” he said.
Alhaji Yakubu Lawal, newspaper’s Editorial Board Chairman, in a statement stated that as part of measure to make the event, being the maiden edition, a memorable one, a team of industry experts was constituted into a body of Advisers to deepen the content of the award.
Speaking further, Lawal said that this year’s award was meant to appreciate and recognize individuals and companies whose work had impacted people’s lives positively.
He said, “These subscribers, including an organisation, have in no small measure, stood by us in ENERGY TIMES from the beginning till date. We are impressed by their sacrifices and the trust they have in us.”
