The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized three petrol tanker trucks in Apapa, Lagos, for allegedly transporting crude edible vegetable oil.
Advisors Reports gathered that the tankers were reportedly heading to an oil processing facility in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
This development was disclosed in a statement released by NAFDAC via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the crude soy oil had been trans-loaded into the tankers from an edible oil depot.
Further investigations revealed that the seized trucks are owned by OSAD Oil and Gas, a company incorporated in Nigeria, is located at 79 Simpson Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
The trucks arrested by NAFDAC bore stickers indicating they were intended for transporting petrol and diesel. Additionally, the trucks displayed stickers from the “Wharf 302 Products and Beverages Association.”
NAFDAC officials, concerned about the potential health risks due to chemical contamination from the tankers’ previous use for transporting petrol, escorted the vehicles to the processing facility in Sango-Ota.
The crude soy oil was subsequently handed over to NAFDAC’s Southwest Zonal Office for further regulatory action.
In response to this incident, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has established a committee tasked with developing guidelines and a code of ethics for the marketing and distribution of edible vegetable oils in Nigeria.
The agency emphasized its commitment to strict enforcement and continuous surveillance to protect public health.
NAFDAC also urged the public to report any suspicious or unwholesome practices related to food and other regulated products, reaffirming its dedication to safeguarding the well-being of Nigerians.
