… performance contract mirrors Adelabu’s Nov 2023 agreement with President Tinubu

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), among other agencies under the Ministry of Power, signed performance contracts to ensure proper tracking and supervision of projects.

The signing of these performance contracts is expected to compel each agency to deliver on their targets.

Advisors  Reports gathered that the performance contract is similar to the performance contract signed by the Minister of Power with the President in November 2023, which outlined the President’s expectations.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who inaugurated the Ministerial Power Sector Working Group on Tuesday in Abuja with Directors and Agencies under the supervision of the Ministry explained that the signing performance contract to will ensure proper tracking and supervision of projects.

Other Directors of agencies present at the signing ceremony also represented National Power Training Institute(NAPTIN), Nigerian Electricity Management and Safety Agency(NEMSA), NELMCO, and the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading(NBET).

The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the agencies signed on behalf of their respective organizations, while the Permanent Secretary signed on behalf of the Directors.

During his speech, Minister Adelabu emphasized the importance of the working group, describing it as a platform for supervisory, monitoring, and oversight control.

He acknowledged the historical existence of such meetings and stressed the need to reintroduce and enhance them.

The primary reason for reintroducing the working group meetings, according to him, is to create a platform for information sharing, dissemination, and sector-wide communication, which he identified as crucial for greater productivity.

Minister Adelabu outlined the benefits of the working group meetings, including improved synergy, capacity optimization, and serving as a training platform.

He encouraged the working group to work diligently to achieve the set targets, emphasizing the significance of the performance contract as a binding agreement to ensure accountability and delivery on objectives.

“In November 2023, as Minister of Power, I signed a performance contract with the President which summarized what the President expects from us.

“Now, we have cascaded that contract down to the Departments and Agencies to contribute to the overall achievement of what we signed with Mr. President.

“It’s a top-down approach that also incorporates a bottom-up strategy,” the Minister stated.

Minister Adelabu therefore expressed confidence that the overall targets would be achieved, given the positive response and enthusiasm displayed by the working group.
