… attributes actual cause to earth/over current faults on IBEDC feeders

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has blamed the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s failure to meet its estimated power supply for Band A feeders on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, revealing that the actual reasons for the outage on the DisCo’s 11kV and 33kV feeders are earth/over current faults, which it claimed have no bearing on the transmission company’s frequency control operations.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN, General Manager, Public Affairs, made this known in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports on Thursday.
This statement is coming on the sideline of a statement released by IBEDC on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, attributing its failure to deliver the estimated 20 hours of supply to issues with its feeders.
The IBEDC had in the statement blamed TCN system outages and tripping on IBEDC feeders as the primary reasons for the unmet hours of service.
Meanwhile TCN has therefore refuted the allegations, claiming that after investigating the situation it was revealed that the IBEDC’s assertions were inaccurate.
TCN said, “That the feeders mentioned in the publication are NOT within the TCN network. This means that most of the listed feeders in the publication are 11kV operated by IBEDC and completely outside TCN’s Operational Control and in IBEDC’s network.
“That the reasons given for the outage on IBEDC 11kV and 33kV are earth/ over current faults, which have no bearing on TCN’s frequency control operations,” the statement claimed.
Mbah further stated that the claim by IBEDC was verified by TCN’s regional management in Osogbo in conjunction with IBEDC Officials themselves and has been proven to be false, necessitating necessary corrections being made.
According to her, the misinformation of IBEDC was a ploy to undermine and mislead the public against regular power supply.
She added that the company remained focused on supporting the government’s move towards a more robust and efficient power supply.
The TCN’s spokesperson has therefore assured the public of its commitment to continue to work hard to effectively transport the entire bulk electricity received from the generating companies to distribution load centres nationwide.
Specific areas affected by the power supply interruptions were:-
- Agba/Shoprite 11KV Feeder:
- Duration: 10 hours
- Cause: The feeder experienced a trip on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power supply was affected on Station Road, Umaru Audi Road, Basin Road, FATE Road, Reservation Road, and Flower Garden
- Akeju 11KV Feeder:
- Duration: 10 hours
- Cause: The feeder tripped on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power supply was disrupted on Tinumola-LAMECO Street
- Commercial 11KV Feeder:
- Duration: 10 hours
- Cause: A 33KV feeder tripped on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power supply was interrupted on Pipeline Road, Awolowo Road, and Tanke Road
- Jebba Paper Mill 11KV Feeder and Jebba Paper Mill 11KV Feeder:
- Duration: 8 hours respectively
- Cause: A 33KV feeder tripped on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power outage on Jebba Paper Mill 11KV Feeder affected Jebba Paper Mill Factory while the outage on Jebba Paper Mill 11KV Feeder affected Idi-Agbon, Station Road
- Osogbo GRA 11KV Feeder:
- Duration: 8 hours
- Cause: A 33KV feeder tripped on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power supply was disrupted on Okefia-Old Garage Station Road
- Prime 11KV Feeder:
- Impact: SawMill Alekuwodo was affected due to TCN Load Limitation
- Wonderful 11KV Tinumola 1 x 7.5MVA, 33/11KV ISS:
- Duration: 10 hours
- Cause: The 11KV feeder tripped on an O/C fault
- Impact: Power supply was affected on Halleluyah Street
