Solad Integrated Power, a clean energy and technology company, a grantee of the Universal Energy Facility (UEF) under the Sustainable Energy for All (SEForAll) Stand Alone Solar for Productive Use Program (SSPU), has deployed high-capacity solar and battery storage systems connecting 140 commercial customers at the Ayangburen market in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Ms. Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, joined by Hon. Babajimi Benson, House of Representatives member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, and Keith Hammond, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDOGovUK) Head of Green Growth Team in Kenya, as well as Sally Woolhouse, FCDOGovUk Nigeria’s Head of Economic Development, paid a visit to the market on Saturday to inspect the progress made with the UEF under the SSPU.
Advisors Reports gathered that the over 140 stand-alone solar systems deployed to the Ayangburen Market, Ikorodu, Lagos have replaced the generators previously relied upon by wholesale traders, tailors, hair and barbing salons, frozen foods, electronics shops, and many more who need reliable power for their businesses in the market.
According to Ms. Ogunbiyi, the visit to Ayangburen market demonstrated the opportunities to power small businesses through solar and battery storage systems.
She stated, “This UEF supported project is helping power many small businesses, creating numerous jobs and opportunities.
“The facilities deployed by our grantee, Solad, has provided sustainable energy and clean cooking solutions to improve the lives of thousands of Nigerians,” Ms. Ogunbiyi further said.
Advisors Reports further confirmed that the solar projects, funded by UEF, is a results-based finance facility administered by SEforALL and executed by SOLAD Integrated Power.
The SEforALL grantee which began the sustainable and renewable energy solutions in August 2023, has undertaken a similar project at Iponri Market in Surulere, Lagos State, connecting over 200 commercial customers to high-capacity stand-alone solar power and battery storage systems for productive use.
UEF, managed by SEforALL, is a multi-donor results-based finance facility established to significantly speed up and scale up energy access across Sub-Saharan Africa, in line with SDG7 and the Paris Agreement.
