…ends 43-day power outage nightmare

Oredola Adeola

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk power supply to the Northeast region, after a 43-day disruption caused by a damaged transmission line.

The power was specifically restored to Gombe, Yola, and Jalingo substations on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 9:37 PM.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed this in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports on Wednesday.

She stated that the transmission line now carries the normal load allocation from the National Control Center (NCC) to transmission substations in the Northeast.

This according to TCN will allow distribution load centers for Kano and Jos DisCos to distribute power to customers in the region.

TCN commended the governors in the Northeast for the patience displayed by all affected electricity consumers during the outage.

Additionally, TCN appealed to residents in communities hosting or near power installations to remain vigilant and report any acts or suspicions of vandalism to security operatives promptly.

The TCN further emphasized that quick reporting of any suspicions could help arrest the situation swiftly and preserve the power transmission towers and lines nationwide.

Mbah also noted in an earlier statement that the re-stringing of conductors was completed on Monday, June 3, 2024, after contractors reconnected the jumper on tower 282.

The vandalized towers were discovered on April 22, 2024, prompting TCN to mobilize contractors and supervising engineers to the site to begin immediate repairs.

Although TCN initially promised to complete the repairs and restore supply by May 27, 2024, the collapse of a fourth tower during the re-stringing process delayed the completion.
