The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Retail has unveiled six new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mobile refueling units, bringing the total number of CNG refueling stations in Lagos State to ten (10).
This development was confirmed by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports.
Advisors Reports’ check showed that the initiative is being executed in collaboration with NIPCO Gas Limited.
The six newly launched mobile CNG refueling stations, according to PCNGI are located at Fola Agoro, Shomolu LGA; Alapere SS; Marina, along Marina; Agege Bypass, Idimangoro; Lakowe SS, along Lagos-Epe Expressway and Odogunyan SS, along Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
These new additions complement the four existing stations in Lagos, which are situated at, Lateef Jakande, Agidingbi, Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, Eti-Osa LGA and Mobile Road, Apapa.
The PiCNG stated that the stations at Fola Agoro and Agege are already operational, with the remaining stations expected to be ready for use before the end of the month.
It also reiterated the commitment to driving domestic gas utilization, emphasizing that the push to bring CNG closer to Nigerians is irreversible and essential for delivering cleaner and cheaper energy sources.
Advisors Reports gathered that the rollout was part of a larger plan by NNPC Limited, in collaboration with NIPCO Gas Limited to develop an Auto-CNG rollout plan aimed at constructing thirty-five (35) CNG stations across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
Mr. Huub Stokman, Managing Director, NNPC Retail Limited, last year revealed that in 2025, NNPC Retail would have launched over 100 CNG sites, including 16 NNPC Gas Marketing and NIPCO Gas JV sites.
“CNG provides Nigeria with affordable alternatives to existing available fuel products. It will be about 40% cheaper than petrol in Nigeria and with continued investments, it will become a significant part of our energy mix,” Stokman added.
