The newly appointed helmsmen of Nigeria’s major energy regulatory agencies (Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission) have kicked off 2026 with a renewed commitment to collaboration aimed at addressing regulatory challenges, enhancing efficiency, and fostering industry growth.

Engr. Saidu Mohammed, Chief Executive of NMDPRA, consolidated this renewed commitment to collaboration with a courtesy visit to Engr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, NUPRC, at the Commission’s corporate headquarters, officially formalizing their strategic partnership.

That meeting was seen as a bold step to encourage investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with both leaders agreeing to hold quarterly meetings to strengthen institutional cooperation, align regulatory frameworks, and promptly address challenges.

During the deliberations, representatives were nominated from each agency to enhance collaboration, foster synergy, and ensure effective oversight of the petroleum sector, with a shared focus on promoting efficiency and sustainable development across the industry.

Engr. Mohammed, ACE of NMDPRA, proceeded with a visit to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in Abuja to strengthen institutional collaboration and enhance synergy between the power and gas sectors in support of national economic growth and energy security.

During the meeting, both parties stressed the importance of continuous engagement and coordinated strategies to develop practical solutions for advancing their respective sectors.

Dr. Musiliu Oseni, NERC Chairman, in his remark, noted that enhanced collaboration between the electricity and petroleum regulators would foster policy alignment, improve operational efficiency, and drive sustainable development throughout the energy value chain.

Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration and exploring joint initiatives to drive growth and stability in Nigeria’s power sector.

The ACE of NMDPRA has outlined a five-year strategic plan focusing on four key priorities: positioning NMDPRA as a best-in-class regulator, ensuring a sustainable energy supply, expanding gas utilization, and establishing Nigeria as Africa’s leading energy hub.
