… to boost liquidity, drive industrial growth

Oredola Adeola

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has urged major power consumers to join its Eligible Customer Programme (ECP), which allows bulk users to buy electricity directly from the company and access between 6MW and 20MW of power from its available 2,000MW stranded capacity.

The company sees the initiative as a key step towards addressing its liquidity challenges and promoting industrial growth.

This was confirmed in a statement by Engr. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, and obtained by Advisors Reports.

This initiative, according to the company, will enable the customers to purchase electricity directly from NDPHC and other Generation Companies.

The NDPHC MD/CEO explained that the Eligible Customer Programme, initially launched in 2017 and updated in 2024, provides an avenue for industrial and commercial customers to access stable, reliable, and affordable electricity supply.

She said, “Under the Programme, eligible customers can access between 6, 10 and 20MW.

“Once approved with a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and secure eligibility status, customers benefit from flexible pricing, negotiated energy tariffs, and improved supply reliability,” the MD said.

She emphasised that with more than 2,000MW of stranded power capacity, NDPHC is intensifying efforts to optimize its generation assets by selling power directly to bulk users.

Engr. Adighije described the Programme as a strategic pathway to deepen Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness.

She said, “The Eligible Customer framework is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial growth by guaranteeing efficient, reliable, and affordable electricity directly from our plants to businesses.

“Phoenix Steel Mills is a clear demonstration of how stable power translates into higher productivity, cost savings, and stronger value chains for the economy,” Engr. Adighije stated.

She noted that the success of early participants in the scheme has reinforced NDPHC’s commitment to expanding the initiative to more industrial clusters across the country.

Advisors Reports confirmed that companies currently benefiting from NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme include Phoenix Steel Mills and several others.
