The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Sweetcrude Limited, publishers of SweetcrudeReports, has announced the launch of the ‘Champions of Nigerian Content Awards.’
The awards ceremony is set to take place on the sidelines of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), scheduled for May 20-22, 2025.
Mr. Felix Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, statement endorsing the initiative, the emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals and companies that have significantly contributed to the advancement of Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry.
“The time has come to identify and celebrate the pillars of Nigerian Content who will serve as shining examples for others in the industry,” Ogbe stated.
He noted that the launch of the awards coincides with preparations to mark the 15th anniversary of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, enacted in 2010.
Mr. Abdulmalik Halilu, NCDMB’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, speaking on the initiative, said the awards would serve as an incentive to encourage compliance with Nigerian Content regulations across the oil and gas sector.
According to him, the Board had considered the idea for several years, and its official launch underscores the conviction that entities demonstrating outstanding commitment to Nigerian Content development should be recognized and celebrated.
The awards will be conferred based on verifiable accomplishments, utilizing defined metrics developed by the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate and other operational divisions of the NCDMB.
The ‘Champions of Nigerian Content Awards’, according to NCDMB, will feature various categories, including:
Nigerian Content Icon of the Year
Nigerian Content Lifetime Achievement Award
Nigerian Content International Upstream Operator of the Year
Nigerian Content Indigenous Upstream Operator of the Year
Nigerian Content Midstream Operator of the Year
Nigerian Content Downstream Operator of the Year
Nigerian Content International Service Company of the Year
Nigerian Content Indigenous Service Company of the Year
Nigerian Content Innovator of the Year
Nigerian Content Financial Services Provider of the Year
Nigerian Content Media Organization of the Year
Women in Leadership Award for Promoting Gender Equality and Empowerment
An advisory board, according to NCDMB, comprised distinguished industry professionals will oversee the awards selection process, ensuring transparency and credibility, including Dr. Ernest Nwapa, Pioneer Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Dr. Omar Farouk, Secretary General, African Petroleum Producers Organization, Mr. Tony Attah, Former Managing Director, Nigeria LNG Ltd, and Mr. Wole Akinyosoye, Former Zonal Operations Controller, Department of Petroleum Resources.
The advisory board’s role is to authenticate the winners and enhance the credibility of the awards.
Meanwhile, Sweetcrude Limited has assured that the awards ceremony will be a grand event, reflecting the significance of Nigerian Content in driving economic growth and industrial development.
