The Nigerian power grid experienced a staggering collapse, leaving electricity distribution companies (DisCos) with a shocking 0 Megawatts (MW) between 3:00 am and 7:00 am on Monday, February 19, 2024, before it later changed 3,072MW around 7:10am same day.

This alarming revelation was obtained by Advisors Reports from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org).

The consequences of this blackout were far-reaching, as many parts of the country were plunged into darkness for almost five hours until power was later restored into the grid system around 7:10 am.

This latest collapse is the third grid disturbances in 2024, in a series of challenges that have beset the country’s power sector, which has been grappling with inconsistent and insufficient electricity supply for years.

Advisors Reports can confirm that the grid suffered one full and two partial collapses this year alone, with the latest incident being the most severe, exacerbating the challenges facing the country’s power sector.

As of the filing of this report, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not released a statement to confirm the development, leaving the public and stakeholders in the dark about the cause and resolution of this latest crisis.
