Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) workers have suspended their ongoing industrial action following productive engagements that secured commitments to settle the ₦174 million 2025 13th-month salary arrears in the February 2026 payroll cycle, alongside regular salary payments and other resolutions agreed by all parties.
This was contained in a statement issued by Future Energies Africa, the core investors in KEDCO, signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, and obtained by Advisors Reports on Friday.
The management said the resolution was achieved through the intervention of the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Future Energies Africa—the core investors in KEDCO—and the Kano State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, whose constructive engagements helped resolve the impasse.
Sani in the statement revealed that efforts to resolve inherited issues of unpaid pension obligations, employee emoluments and benefits have been a key focus of the company after the restructuring exercise that had FEA emerge as the new Core Investor.
He stated that the company is making progress and anticipates that its current plan and trajectory will resolve those inherited issues.
Following extensive consultations and negotiations, the following agreements have been reached:
– Settlement of Outstanding Arrears: KEDCO has paid the 13th-month salary (bonus) arrears of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (₦150,000,000), and appraisal bonus of Twenty Million Naira (₦20,000,000) dating back to 2019 and 2022, respectively, totaling One Hundred and Seventy Million Naira (₦170,000,000). This demonstrates management’s commitment to honoring its obligations to the workforce.
– 2025 Bonus Payment: The Company has committed to settling the 2025 13th-month salary arrears (bonus) of One Hundred and Seventy-Four Million (N174,000,000) in the February 2026 salary cycle, alongside regular salary payments.
– Establishment of Dialogue Framework: An expanded meeting involving representatives from the NLC Secretariat, the Electricity Labour Unions, and the Board of KEDCO will be convened to address other pending complex issues. This collaborative approach ensures lasting solutions that serve the interests of all parties.
Advisors Reports gathered that the industrial action was suspended with immediate effect in line with the agreements reached, with all parties committing to a no-victimisation clause
The KEDCO management confirmed that normal operations have resumed across its service areas and assured stakeholders of its commitment to improved service delivery, harmonious labour relations and sustainable operations.
