UPDATED: Ikeja Electric unveils 45 premium feeders’ locations in response to NERC’s Band A tariff hike

… 5-step guide for customers to discover their feeder bands

Ikeja Electric (IE) has introduced 45 distinct feeders across multiple locations designated under the 11kV Band “A” Feeders, aligning with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s updated rates for customers within the Band A service category, ensuring a minimum average daily supply of 20 hours.

This was obtained by Advisors Reports in a publication released on Friday by the Ikeja Electric following NERC’s decision to reduce the number of feeders that meet the Band A threshold from 875 to less than 500.

Ikeja Electric has also introduced a five-step process for customers to determine their feeder band, to enhance customer awareness and engagement in understanding their electricity supply and service category.

Customers are encouraged to visit the Ikeja Electric website, click on Customer Service, then Customer Feeder Information, followed by Customer Feeder Verification, and finally entering their account or meter number.

Advisors Reports gathered that 11 and 33 feeder locations have been reclassified under Band “A” by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which is expected to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the power supply system for customers in the affected areas.

NERC has however in publication obtained by Advisors Reports on Thursday, emphasised  the decision to increase the tariff was based on key market tariff review indices, including Nigerian inflation, US inflation, exchange rate, transmission loss factor, generation cost, transmission and administration cost, and wholesale gas to power prices.

The new tariff hike, raising the average from N65/kWh to N225/kWh for customers on Band A, was justified by NERC through key market tariff review indices, including Nigerian inflation (12% to 31.7%), US inflation (3% to 3.2%), and a significant exchange rate increase from N919.39 to N1,463.30 per US dollar, alongside rising generation costs from N63.8 to N103.9/kWh and transmission & admin costs from N6.8 to N9.1/kWh.
