… hospital equipped with 250 beds, 16 ICUs, MRI, radiotherapy facilities

(Dr.) Folorunso Alakija, Nigerian businesswoman and founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil, and her husband Modupe Alakija, Chairman of Famfa Oil have built and donated a ₦34 billion medical research and training hospital to Osun State University (UNIOSUN)
“The facility, named the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, was commissioned on Monday in Osogbo, Osun State, by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. former Vice President.”
The state-of-the-art hospital, jointly donated by Dr. Alakija, who also serves as Chancellor of Osun State University, has been designed to function as a premier center for medical training, research, and advanced healthcare, drawing significant interest from medical professionals across Nigeria and Africa
Advisors Reports gathered that the hospital features 250 admission beds, 20 clinical departments, five non-clinical departments, a community health unit, maternity and neonatal care services, as well as state-of-the-art research and diagnostic laboratories.
Additional facilities include four ultra-modern operating theatres, 16 intensive care units (ICUs), an ophthalmology unit, and advanced diagnostic imaging equipment, including CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray machines, alongside radiotherapy suites.
During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Alakija also set aside ₦1 billion as a loan to UNIOSUN to support the hospital’s maintenance and operations over a specified period.”
The hospital is expected to significantly boost medical education, research capacity, and specialist healthcare services in Nigeria, while positioning Osun State as a leading centre for medical excellence.
Gov Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, in his comment, disclosed that the monumental facility, built and donated to the University by the Alakijas, represents a historic milestone for our state and for medical education in Africa.
He said, “This world class facility will serve medical training, research, and advanced healthcare delivery, setting a new benchmark not only for Osun State, but for Nigeria and Africa at large.”
Gov. Adeleke noted that the facility stands as a bold testament to the power of philanthropy in complementing government efforts in education and healthcare.
