The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has announced the selection of Coleman Technical Industries Limited (Coleman) to represent the power sector in the newly formed National Scheme Council established by the Federal Government, which comprises eighteen (18) key sectors aimed at driving national development and sectoral growth.

Additionally, COREN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coleman Technical Industries Limited (Coleman) to take in more graduate trainee, exploring opportunities in engineering skills, local content development, and the power sector.

This was the highlight of the signing ceremony which took place at the Coleman factory in Arepo Ogun State, witnessed by Engr. Sadiq Abubakar, President of COREN, and George Onafowokan, Managing Director of Coleman Technical Industries Limited.
Advisors Reports gathered that the partnership between COREN and Coleman aims to strengthen the relationship between the two, as well as promote the advancement of local content in the country.
George Onafowokan, Managing Director of Coleman Technical Industries Limited, in his remark, identified the partnership as the right choice for his company, applauding COREN’s efforts in partnering with his company which he described as the number one cable company in the continent of Africa.
Onafowokan emphasized that Coleman has been dedicated to promoting local content in the marine and gas sectors.
He also highlighted Coleman’s commitment to diversifying its operations through investments in technology.
He added that Coleman has been training individuals, including National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and engineers, which has positively impacted the company.
“We have trained people in automation engineering, among other fields, and this partnership is setting a legacy for those who will come after your tenure,” Onafowokan said.
“Engr. Sadiq Abubakar, President of COREN, commended Coleman for providing the Council and interns with access to its facilities, demonstrating the brand’s expertise in the power sector.”
According to him, Coleman is the prime competitor in advancing local content. He therefore emphasized the strategic role that the company is playing in the industrial development of the nation.
According to the COREN President, the partnership between COREN and Coleman will focus on various initiatives, including the plans to reactivate the Engineering Residency Programme, which requires engineering graduates to undergo a one-year residency before proceeding to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He said, “Coleman, as a critical player in the power sector, will play a crucial role in this initiative.
“The Federal government has set up a national scheme council, with 18 sectors included. COREN has selected Coleman to represent the power sector in the council.
“The Council’s main objective is to streamline the informal sector, providing training, certification, accreditation, registration, and licensing opportunities for artisans, technicians, and engineers.
“Coleman has already been active in providing opportunities for engineering students during their industrial attachments, and this partnership will further enhance these efforts.
“COREN, through its annual engineering assembly, will also benefit from Coleman’s expertise in promoting local content development, as the company will mentor other indigenous businesses,” Engr. Abubakar.
The President of COREN therefore emphasised that the MoU between COREN and Coleman signifies a significant step towards advancing engineering skills, promoting local content, and developing the power sector in Nigeria.
He also said that the agreement highlights the importance of partnerships between regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders to drive economic growth and provide employment opportunities.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and Coleman Wires and Cables, the COREN President and his team toured the company’s factories in Sagamu and Arepo.

The COREN team expressed excitement at the infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities of Coleman, which are contributing to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
