Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of ECN made this known while laying out a energy comprehensive strategy during a virtual conference with Dr. Angela Wilkinson, WEC Secretary-General, on Tuesday.

Focusing on several key areas essential for advancing Africa’s energy sector, the ECN DG emphasized the need to expand the network of stakeholders and leverage their expertise, Abdullahi stressed the importance of a cohesive strategy to overcome Africa’s energy challenges.

Proposing the organization of international summits, Abdullahi suggested these gatherings could provide a platform for African nations to discuss and address unique energy issues, fostering unity and the exchange of best practices.

He also highlighted the necessity for workshops, educational programs, and professional training.

The ECN DG further called for increased financial support from international bodies to explore and harness Africa’s abundant energy resources, stressing the critical need for global funding to drive transformative energy projects.

He also emphasized the need to promote energy access and affordability for all Africans, recognizing its fundamental importance for improving quality of life and driving economic development.

Encouraging innovation and technology transfer, Abdullahi highlighted the role of cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices in unlocking Africa’s energy potential.

Stressing the importance of energy security and reliability, the ECN DG called for efforts to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply across Africa.

Abdullahi affirmed the NEC’s readiness to host and collaborate with the world’s leading energy body during its planned visit to Nigeria. As the lead energy agency in Nigeria, he welcomed all synergies to enhance the continent’s energy potential and ensure a brighter energy future for Africa.

In response, Dr. Wilkinson commended Abdullahi’s leadership and reaffirmed the WEC’s commitment to supporting Africa’s energy transitions.
