Bolaji Osunsanya, outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Axxela Limited, has officially retired after over two decades of exemplary leadership, stepping down at 60 and handing over to his successor, Ogbemi Ofuya, as the new Group Chief Executive Officer.

Advisors Reports confirmed that Osunsanya will collaborate with Ofuya until December 2024 to ensure a seamless leadership transition and finalize the company’s ongoing enterprise reorganization.

Boye Olusanya, Chairman of the Board of Axxela, a leading gas and power company in sub-Saharan Africa, announced Osunsanya’s retirement in a statement obtained by Advisors Reports on Monday.

Osunsanya steps down after more than two decades of exemplary leadership at Axxela and a distinguished career spanning over 35 years in consulting, financial services, banking, and the oil and gas sector.

The Chairman praised Osunsanya’s contributions, stating, “Bolaji’s exceptional leadership has had a significant positive impact on Axxela, and the board is immensely grateful for his vision, passion, and unwavering commitment as the company’s pioneer Chief Executive.”

He emphasised that under Osunsanya’s leadership, Axxela experienced tremendous growth, enabled vast industrialisation, supported the growth and emergence of many industries, and led the company’s expansion into new regional markets.

The Board of Axxela Limited has extended its best wishes to Bolaji Osunsanya as he retires, celebrating his impactful legacy at the company.

The Board Chairman named Ogbemi Ofuya as the new Group Chief Executive Officer.

Olusanya highlighted Ofuya’s significant contributions to Axxela, noting his role on the board and his leadership in facilitating Helios’ acquisition of Oando’s interest in the company.

“With his extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, proven leadership capabilities, and deep understanding of Axxela’s business, I am confident that Ogbemi is well-positioned to reimagine the company’s strategy and lead it into the future,” he said.

In his farewell remarks, outgoing CEO Bolaji Osunsanya expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Axxela over the past two decades.

“It has been a privilege to lead the team at Axxela. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished, which has only been possible due to our people’s incredible talent and contributions,” he stated.

Osunsanya added that he looks forward to witnessing the company’s continued growth under its new leadership.

Ogbemi Ofuya, the newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Axxela Limited, has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization at a transformative time.

“I am honoured to have been appointed by the board to lead this great organization at such a pivotal time,” Ofuya said.

“Axxela has evolved into an integrated energy solutions company, and it is a privilege to build on the exceptional foundation established by Bolaji and his team.”

Ofuya reaffirmed his commitment to steering the company forward and strengthening its position as a leader in the energy sector.

“We are poised to navigate the opportunities ahead and continue driving Axxela’s growth,” he added.

A seasoned professional with nearly two decades of experience in oil and gas, energy infrastructure, and power, Ofuya is currently a Partner at Helios Investment Partners and a non-executive director at Axxela Limited.

He has a robust background in executing mergers and acquisitions, as well as debt and equity transactions, during his tenure at Goldman Sachs International.

His career also includes roles at ExxonMobil and Standard Chartered, where he specialized in project management and strategic initiatives.

Ofuya holds an MBA from London Business School as a Mo Ibrahim Scholar and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria.

Following this leadership transition, he will also join Axxela’s Board as a non-executive director, ensuring continuity in its strategic direction as the company advances its growth trajectory.
