An explosion rocked a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, late Monday night, igniting a fire that has been raging through the mangrove areas.

Advisors Reports’ preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred near Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc through a joint funding partnership between Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Checks showed that TNP transports 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Bonny Terminal using a pipeline network.

As of Tuesday, the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown. The TNP, a critical export pipeline, transports crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.

This development comes after Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited (formerly Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria) completed its takeover of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) on March 13, 2025, following the acquisition of Shell’s onshore and shallow water assets in Nigeria

Renaissance is a consortium of Nigerian companies, including Aradel Holdings PLC, ND Western Limited, First Exploration and Petroleum Development Company Limited, and Waltersmith Group.

The company has yet to issue an official statement on the explosion.

Meanwhile, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, stated that she would look into the incident and provide an update, though no further information was available at the time of filing this report.
