… urges NNPC to fast-track reactivation of Port Harcourt, Warri, Kaduna refineries

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded former President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s four refineries and expressed appreciation to the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for financing the critical project.

President Tinubu in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, congratulated Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), for the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery.

The President commended Kyari’s leadership and commitment, which were instrumental in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone, culminating in the official commencement of petroleum product loading on November 26, 2024.

Tinubu further urged NNPC Limited to expedite efforts to reactivate the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

He emphasized that these initiatives, coupled with contributions from privately-owned refineries, would significantly boost domestic production capacity and position Nigeria as a major energy hub.

The President further highlighted his administration’s focus on repairing the nation’s refineries to eliminate the paradox of Nigeria being a leading crude oil producer yet dependent on imports for refined products.

Stressing the importance of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding national infrastructure, Tinubu called on all stakeholders to remain committed to their responsibilities and maintain public trust.

As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and increasing Nigeria’s export capacity, thereby fostering shared economic prosperity for all citizens.
